Magnolia loses to Georgetown in pitching duel

Magnolia lost 1-0 against Georgetown on Thursday night in Game 1 of the Region III-5A quarterfinals at Nutrabolt Stadium in Bryan.

The Bulldogs (26-7) got a standout pitching performance from starter Adam Kloffenstein, who allowed just four hits and one earned run in seven innings. He finished with 10 strikeouts.

Magnolia managed just one hit of its own against Georgetown starter Grayson Smith, who struck out five batters and walked three in 6 2/3 innings.

The lone run of the game came across the plate in the bottom of the third inning as Cole Posey scored on a groundout by Cole Moore.

Game 2 will be played at 1 p.m. today back at Nutrabolt with Game 3 to follow if needed. The winner of the series will play either Kingwood Park or Santa Fe in the regional semifinals next week.... Click here to read full article
