10/22/2019 — The host Bulldogs finished third in the girls', the boys', and the combined team competitions on Saturday at the Magnolia I.S.D. Sprint Invitation.

The annual event, which is held on campus at the Michael D. Holland Aquatic Center, brought five teams to the event, including cross-town rivals and co-hosts Magnolia West, who entered a varsity and a junior varsity team. Also at the meet were Kingwood Park High School and the HCYA Warriors, who are a team of high school swimmers and divers in the greater Houston area who receive home-directed education.

It was the Warriors who defeated all teams to take the girls’, boys’ and combined team titles. Kingwood Park placed second to the Warriors in each category, while the Bulldogs defeated the Mustangs' two squads for third.

LIVELY AND SHORTER DIVE TO PODIUM SPOTS

Divers Jett Lively and Jada Shorter put the Bulldogs on the podium first with Lively taking the top spot in the boys' one-meter dive and Shorter placing second in the girls' event. Madison Barber and Briana Simon also scored points with a fourth- and a fifth-place finish in the girls' one-meter dive.

SCORING SWIMMERS

Several Bulldogs chipped in with top-eight scoring spots, including junior Kailey Turner and senior Olivia Gonder who earned wins. Turner was tops in the girls’ 50-yard fly, while Gonder won the 100-yard individual medley.

The first top-five scoring spot for the Bulldogs was the 200-yard Medley relay of Evan Burgoon, Dylan Gregg, Nathan Scott, and Cooper Waybright, who placed fifth.

Also in the 200-yard medley relay was the foursome of Isabelle Draeger, Anneke Anderson, Brooke Reinecke, and Paige Moran, who placed sixth for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the 50-yard free, only sophomore Nathan Scott and junior Cooper Waybright scored points with their seventh and eighth place finish in a 25-strong field. Top girls in the 50-yard free were freshmen Anneke Anderson and Brooke Reinecke, who finished ninth and tenth in the 30-swimmer field.

Salina Damas joined Gonder in the 100-yard individual medley as a scorer. The senior scored points with her sixth-place finish.

In the 50-yard back, the Bulldogs had a trio of scorers with Damas scoring sixth, again, in the girls’ race, while Evan Burgoon and Stephen Bullock placed sixth and eighth in the boys’ event.

McKinley Mouton and Cooper Waybright scored for the boys in the 100-yard free with Mouton placing fifth and Waybright seventh. Mouton went on to finish sixth in the 200-yard free to be the lone scorer for the Bulldogs in the meet’s longest race.

BIG RELAY POINTS

Big points were scored in the boys’ 200-yard free relay and the girls' 400-yard free relay, as the Bulldogs put six squads into scoring spots.

For the boys, McKinley Mouton, Nathan Scott, Cooper Waybright and Dylan Gregg teamed up to finish third in the 200-yard free relay for the boys, while Tanner Howse, Gabriel Lewis, Evan Burgoon, and Stephen Bullock placed sixth and one spot ahead of fellow Bulldogs Tristan Lashbrook, Parker Hoffman, Jayden Robinson, and Oscar Montes.

Isabelle Draeger, Anneke Anderson, Brooke Reinecke, and Sarah Stinebaugh placed second in the girls' 400-yard free relays. Teamed up to place fifth in the same race were Haleigh Adams, Valea Brauner, Carlie Willingham, and Ellie Spooner, while Sam Ryan, Heidi Song, Jacksyn Rolf, and Izabella Icasiano finished seventh to score points.
